SEO and PPC – Notes for Basic Differences

SEO and PPC are two totally different strategies of marketing but works for the same purpose which is attract the visitors to the website. Both of the strategies are focused and beneficial for the websites and help to attract the potential audiences. There are various situations where it is mandatory to decide that which strategy works for the website. Let’s talk about the basic differences between SEO and PPC.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization

SEO is a marketing strategy which is focused on getting higher rank for the web pages by improving the quality and relevance of the content and attracts target traffic from organic search. This is all will be done by not paying any cost on Ads. In SEO, we have to follow the process of improving visibility of the web pages on major search engines like Google, Bing and many others.

SEO process will involve majorily 4 activities:

  1. Keyword Research: understanding what words or phrases people want to search while looking for some product
  2. On-Page SEO: optimizing the web pages so that major search engines will like your website pages and display the same to the front of right people. It can be done through improving page rank by including relevant content on the web pages.
  3. Off-Page SEO: includes the activities outside the website to show search engines that your web pages deserve ranks.
  4. Technical SEO: pre-defined activities by search engines to ensure that search engines will find, crawl and index your content effectively.

PPC – Pay Per Click

PPC is a paid online marketing strategy as it gets traffic from paid social and search. Keyword plays an important role in PPC as the audiences are target on the basis of demographics by showing suitable keywords to right people. In PPC, ads will be scheduled to be shown on the search engines on the top position by paying an amount of money.

PPC process will typically involves below 4 activities:

  1. Keyword Research: same as SEO which tries to find the best suitable words or phrases that people searches.
  2. Bid Setting: to decide the amount of money you want to pay to the search engines. This will involve the competition with your rivals. If paid less then Search Engine will show ads from competitor.
  3. Ad Creation: prepare the slogans and decide what your Ads will tell about your stories of website.
  4. Audience Targeting: targeting the potential traffic by knowing who will look into your ads
